What the boys are up to
Tonight was the debut performance of the Year 9 drama classes. They performed a hilarious adaption of the three kings, “Bethlehem or Bust”. It is likened to Monty Python’s legendary film “Life of Brian”.
The boys got plenty of laughs (and they were all intentional).
After working up a ravenous hunger at the College Swimming Carnival, the Y9 French class indulged in delicious delicacies from North Western France – crêpes – and their savoury cousins galette – at one of Sydney’s three traditional Breton Crêperies ‘The Four Frogs’.
In anticipation of the finals of the Linguafest on November 25, the group took some time to enjoy a dinner together at the Mosman restaurant to acknowledge their achievements thus far.
The owners and chefs as well as the serving team are all French, and the boys eagerly used their Language skills to order and interact with the staff, who paid very high compliments to the entire group on their ability to communicate very effectively in French.
We hope to share more good news soon as this wonderful adventure comes to a conclusion!
This morning at Assembly Coedie Anderson and Daniel Gibbons gave a report to the school about the Pilbara immersion that some Year 9 boys attended earlier this year. After the report, the boys who attended were presented with Solidarity pins by Mr Tarlinton in recognition of the contribution to the immersion.
Coedie and Daniel’s report is included below.
The boys listed below were recognised for their performance in the Australian Geography competition which was held earlier this year. These boys achieved High Distinctions in the competition. Joeys was the 5th ranked school overall, Australia wide, beating many selective schools.

The year 9 Agriculture class headed off up the Bell’s Line of Road towards the apple district of Bilpin, some 100kms from Joeys and around 600 metres above sea-level. The class was heading to Bilpin Springs Orchard, predominantly an apple orchard but also growing peaches, pears and nectarines.
None of these boys would have experienced this type of Agriculture before and the visit was organised to show the boys that the management of an orchard is a very complex operation. The proprietor, Mr. Cedric Lethbridge, is a very “switched-on” farmer who is a wonderful communicator as well as a user of the latest digital technology, which he utilises in order to run his orchard very productively.
The boys were able to fix irrigation systems, pick fruit for St. Annes Nursing home, Gladesville, drive “cherry-pickers” and release beneficial insects into the orchard that play a major role in the control of pests and diseases through the process called Integrated Pest Management.

Agriculture Teacher.
