Today Dr. Chris Hayes talked to the boys about a number of things but there were a couple of very important messages that I would like to share with you. I will also be reiterating these messages with the boys over the coming days.
- Struggles are good and they make us stronger – Clearly struggles are high on the agenda for the boys in Year 7 at the minute. It is important that we encourage the boys to persevere here and to push through these struggles and challenging times. By being patient and resilient they will be able to navigate their way through difficult periods and become stronger men in the process
- Put in the effort – The boys have heard this a lot. No one else can do this for them. They need to work hard and never give up. I often use quotes on the screens up here in the dorms as daily reminders for the boys to focus on this. The quote for the last two days has been “you only fail when you stop trying”. It also important that we encourage the boys to never give up, to set goals and to celebrate when they achieve these goals.
Dr. Hayes spoke brilliantly to the boys and also used the quote “the only person who is just average is the person who doesn’t try”. It is crucial that we encourage these young men to try new things, be resilient in the process and to always strive for better things. Joeys is renowned for producing fine young men of character. Let’s aim to instill this in the Year 7 group of 2018 nice and early.
