Rugby v Marist Canberra and internals

Today was the first Saturday of games for the Winter sport season. The 13A rugby and 13D rugby had games against teams from Marist Canberra. Other teams had internal trials.

Friday night footy

In Term 1 and Term 4 while there is daylight savings, Year 7 have a BBQ dinner at the Park each Friday night. It is an opportunity for some touch footy, soccer or tennis and watching live Super Rugby and NRL on the scoreboard at the same time!

Grandparents day

Hunters Hill Rugby

On Sundays during winter the boarders form a rugby team which plays for the local Hunters Hill Rugby team. Today was their first game.

Head of the river 1

The entire school travelled out to the Sydney International Regatta Centre at Penrith to support the Joeys rowing crews competing in the Head of River regatta which was first held in 1893. Clothing pool

SJC Second-hand Clothing Pool is urgently in need of new stock, particularly in larger sizes. Winter sports gear and equipment is also keenly sought. The Clothing Pool will happily buy pre-loved blazers from you as well. Opening hours are Fridays during term from 3-5pm. This is an invaluable service run by the P&F for parents….

Blessing of the new tennis court facilities

Last Friday afternoon was the opening and blessing of the new tennis courts facilities. All the tennis players attended and a BBQ was cooked. Thank you to Fr Gavin for providing a prayer and blessing for the courts.

The undefeated 13F Basketball

The 13F Basketball were one of only a few Basketball teams in the College that went through the season undefeated. Well done!

St Joseph’s Day mass

The school marked St Joseph’s Day on 19 March with a mass in the hall said by Old Boy priest Fr Tom Stevens as well as a special lunch and pizzas for dinner.

Sunday night Mass

Each Sunday night the boarders return for Mass at 8:15pm in the College Chapel. Parents and other family members are always welcome to join us and many do. Last night Year 7 did the readings and offertory for the Boarder’s Mass.

Scholars and friends soiree

The Br Louis Music Centre wishes to congratulate those boys who presented at the Scholars and Friends Soiree last Wednesday evening. The standard of music from all boys was exceptional.

Working with Wood

Morning mass with Year 12 buddies

Each Wednesday morning before school there is an optional Mass in the Chapel for any staff or boys who wish to attend. On 13 March the Year 12 boys invited their Year 7 buddies to join them at Mass.

On 13 March at Assembly, two Year 7 boys, Wallace McKay and Harry Sullivan, presented a report on behalf of their year group about their first weeks at Joeys so far.

PDHPE practical lesson

Year 7 have started the year doing classwork in PDHPE. In recent weeks they have started some practical components. This requires some organisation in remembering to bring the PE uniform from the dorms, but it is worth remembering. Year 7 painting

Our Year 7 artists are painting up a storm in the studio.  Delicious cup cakes have been transformed into colorful artworks as boys learn about composition and colour relationships whilst studying the techniques of Pop artist Wayne Thiebaud.

Thursday roast night

Roast chicken and roast beef with potatos, corn on the cob and gravy. No one is going hungry tonight! The boys eat dinner at 6:30 pm between evening study sessions.

Ash Wednesday liturgy

The boys had a liturgy in the Hall to recognise Ash Wednesday and the start of Lent where boys received ashes on their foreheads. The College Lenten Appeal was also launched during the liturgy.

Lenten appeal

Each year during Lent the boys raise funds for a different cause. They are encouraged to give something up and make a sacrifice to help someone who is not as well off as themselves.
