ROAD SAFETY PRESENTATION – “YOU CHOOSE”.

On Wednesday the boys with Yr.11 listened to a very raw and powerful Road Safety Presentation from Melissa McGuinness. It was a wonderful presentation with many messages for the boys. What also impressed was the spontaneous and genuine standing ovation both Year groups gave to Melissa as she concluded and then the very manly and respectful manner in which every boy, in both Year groups waited behind to show her their appreciation for what she had laid open for them. Following is an account from one of our boys –

During period two on Wednesday we had a special guest Melissa McGuinness come in and talk to Years 10 and 11 about road safety and her experience in losing her 18 year old son, Jordan McGuinness, in a car accident in 2012. Melissa gave a very emotional but serious lesson on the importance oF road safety and the consequence of reckless driving while under the influence of drugs and alcohol. During our experience at Joeys we have had countless talks relating to a number of serious topics, but nothing has touched our heart in such an emotional way that could bring a tear to our eyes. To hear Melissa’s’ story about her family’s grief and pain through such an unbearable time, showed us boys a sense of reality in choosing the right choice. This experience sure opened our eyes and proved that what decisions we make as young adults can affect our lives, family, friends and normal people. I am one hundred percent sure that every boy in that hall during period two learned something so valuable that they will remember so clearly throughout their lives when it comes to making that decision that they will choose the right one.
