Friday French social night
On Friday night the Year 9 French students attended a French dance night. It was a great night with plenty of beaming faces and positive comments as we left the venue, having made new friends and enjoyed the music and atmosphere. It is possible that some of the joy came from the fact that they pretty quickly realised they were the only boys’ school there and that the ratio of boys to girls was about 1:5.
15A and 15B Rugby
The following great photos of the 15A and B rugby from last weekend against Shore are courtesy of Daniel Gibbons in Year 9.

Hunters Hill-Le Vesinet Exchange students
Year 9 French with our three Hunters Hill-Le Vesinet Exchange students working together.
The Hunters Hill-Le Vesinet Exchange is in its 27th year and Students in Years 9-11 who study French can participate by going to France to stay with a French family in the outer Parisian suburb of Le Vesinet, a sister municipality to Hunters Hill for 6 weeks in December/January, before reciprocating and receiving their French host brother in June/July.
It was the French students’ first day at school after 3 weeks of holiday time with their host families (Each of these students have been hosted by a current Year 11 student studying French), exploring places far and wide such as Thredbo, Hamilton Island and Byron Bay. Although wearing a uniform was a complete novelty for them, they easily slipped into their roles as honorary “Joe Boys” for the 3 weeks ahead.

Y9 French working in small group with the three students from France asking about film and cinema popularity in France.

Julian Doyle, Robbie Matchett, Will Dyster, Zac Lawler with Le Vesinet exchange student Oscar Beriot learning about popular movie genres in France.

Last call for canteen help this Saturday
Thanks Year 9 families for your support filling the rosters for the canteens and dining room for THIS SATURDAY. The response has been fabulous and overwhelming but we still have just a few spots to fill, so if you haven’t already volunteered, please click on the link below.
And don’t forget to look out for the “9” balloon where we can all meet for some refreshments at Jack’s bar after the game.
Thanks again from the Year 9 parent reps.
Dear Families
Saturday July 23 is OUR YEAR 9 DAY to man the canteens for the Shore Home Game. As an added bonus we are also the Hosts at Jack’s bar after the game :))
It is really important that we get this roster filled because as you may or may not know the canteens are run wholly by parent volunteers.
Please find above the link to the roster.
I know a lot of you will be delaying signing up until you know what time your son/s are playing, but it’s really important we get this roster filled as soon as possible, so please sign up and if there’s a clash, see if you can do a swap with someone on the roster the week before.
Our year 9 parent group is known within the school as being one of the most active and helpful, so let’s keep the spirit going and do our best for a great day.
Looking forward to seeing as many of you in the canteen on the day and at Jack’s bar after the game – look for the number “9” balloon.
Thanks
Year 9 Parent REPS
Year 9 Father Son camp
This is an invitation for your son and his father or “fatherly figure” to attend the Year 9 Father/Son weekend at Colo on the 17th and 18th of September. This is an optional opportunity, which usually sees at least half of the Year 9 boys and their father (or father figure) attending.
For many Year 9 boys, this age is a time when they are entering a transition to manhood. It can be a time of exciting change and growth that is coupled with times of challenge and struggle for your son (as well as for those close to him). The intent of the weekend is to allow the opportunity for you to spend some special time with your son and strengthen your dialogue with him as he embarks on this transition. Those fathers who have joined us in the past have spoken very highly of their positive and rewarding experiences.
There are links to six documents providing information related to the weekend at the bottom of this post.
A personal admission – when I receive information about events, I have a tendency to put the information aside until just prior to the event. Sometimes I have a quick scan, but often don’t look at the detail until closer to the time. If this sounds familiar and you’re in the same boat, may I suggest that you read at least two of the above mentioned documents now – “A Note for Fathers 2016” and “Father Son information 2016”. This will give you some thinking time to work on the letter we’re asking you to write to your son, and give to him on the Saturday night (17 September), or time to book any equipment you may need to borrow from Colo.
Many boys and their dads (or father figure) get a lot out of their Colo experience together and I hope that you’ll be able to join us.
Kind regards,
Mark Brackenreg, Coordinator of the SJC Colo Outdoor Education Campus
