ASH WEDNESDAY
CHEERING PRACTICE
The Year 12 students are always watchful that the quality of cheering at events is up to standard each year. With a big Basketball match against Newington this Saturday and the Head of the River fast approaching, they have been ramping things up after each Headmaster’s Assembly. What starts off slow at times, soon gets very loud and even the Year 7 boys are very keen to rip into it, as can be seen by the final photo.
PHOTOGRAPHIC AND DIGITAL MEDIA EXCURSION
An enjoyable day was had by Year 10 Photography students on a practical-based excursion to gather images from two of Sydney’s historic sites. First stop was Cockatoo Island where the unique industrial structures and machinery provided excellent subject matter. Then off to Luna Park to capture the contrasting landscape of the amusement park. The boys will now work on editing and compositing their photographs to produce a portfolio of digital images and a short conceptual film on the theme of ‘bamboozled’.
HEALTH CENTRE
SUNDAY EVENING MASS
Our Sunday Evening Mass is an integral part of the College week. Boarders, parents and any families are all welcome to the 8:15pm celebration of the Eucharist. Each week different Year groups are responsible for carrying out readings and other jobs needed to assist Fr.Gavin. With the refurbishment of the Chapel presently under way, the Mass is being held in the Br. Emilian Hall.
Below are some of our boys waiting for the Mass to commence. When the Mass commences, our boys carry out the readings very well. We are all fortunate to have Fr. Gavin, he always delivers messages which challenge the boys and greatly assists their faith development. Always feel free to come along to any of our Masses, they are a great way to start a new week.
EVENING STUDY
As mentioned previously, the boys are studying each evening in the classrooms from 6:15pm – 8:00pm. They then have optional activities or study in the dorms from 8:15pm – 9:00pm. After this they are back at their desks in the dorms from 9:15pm – 9:45pm. With a number of Assessment Tasks due over the next three weeks, Donna, Andrew and I have been stressing the importance of planning ahead and getting started on these upcoming obligations. Generally the boys have been doing this very well.
HEADMASTER’S ASSEMBLY
Our weekly Assemblies, Thursday Period Two, are an important part of the College week. At our Assembly today, with Mr Tarlinton overseas, Br. Anthony addressed the boys with some timely advice. The gloss of the new year has worn off and it is now time for routine and good habits repeated regularly, not just during the week, but also on weekends. Brother told the boys;
“If you believe in yourself and are willing to work hard, to be prepared to make little sacrifices and pay the price for the things that matter, anything is possible for you to achieve”.
