Mr. Tarlinton addressed the assembly today and made reference to effort and hard work when speaking to the boys. He encouraged the boys to evaluate their work in Semester One and to challenge themselves to progress this term. He referred the Academic Reports that the boys recently received and asked the boys to ‘strive for better things’. The boys were reminded by Br Anthony that nothing in life is free and that they will be rewarded if they put in the effort to succeed.
These words are very important as we move into a huge term. Let’s make this term a rewarding one where we celebrate the successes of the boys in Year 7 but also take responsibility to make changes where needed. This Term is about the growth and development of the young men in Year 7. I am sure that this will be the case.
This week in pastoral care the teachers have been discussing the effects of bullying with the students. The boys have responded well to this and have been very open in sharing their thoughts.
In our division meeting this morning we further discussed bullying with a particular focus on the types/forms of bullying. The concept of the Digital Footprint was reiterated with the boys particularly in relation to Cyber Bullying. You may recall that this was addressed with the boys last term but it is always good to consolidate information such as this. The difference between bullying and banter was also briefly mentioned to reinforce concepts from last term.
Our meeting finished with the reintroduction of the bystander in bullying. The boys are well and truly aware of this and have started to generate good ideas on how bystanders can help to resolve issues instead of sitting idle and allowing the issue to foster. We will continue with this next week and will discuss strategies to help deal with bullying. The boys, as a Year group, made a pact to each look at how they interact with their peers and in doing so help go address potential bullying incidents.
I have encouraged each of the boys to discuss all of the mentioned above with you so hopefully they do so in the coming days.
