On Friday May 26 the boys are having their class photos. Year 7 are up first and as a result it is important that they set a good standard for this. The boys were reminded today by Br Anthony to ensure that they are in their BLUES, have polished their shoes and have had a haircut. Can you please remind your son of this.

LENTEN APPEAL FOR THE NEW MARIST SCHOOL IN TIMOR-LESTE – RECESS CAKE STALL: On Friday 19 May the SJC Mission Office, in conjunction with the P&F, is running a cake stall at recess (10.40am-11.00am). Your Year Reps will be asking families to bake or buy cakes, biscuits and slices and send them in (drop items to your sons’ ref – Year 7 to the Year 8 ref). They are also asking for some parents to come and run the cake stall and for the boys to bring $5 (or more) to buy a plate of delicious items.

Cake boxes will be available from reception.

Just a reminder that this Friday is the annual yr7 Father’s Drinks – know as the “Training Session”. Jump on the online shop now to make sure you don’t miss out on one of the most loved events of the year. Catch up with other Joeys dads over a few cold beers and a BBQ on the SJC Rowers Pontoon on Tarban Creek. 3:15pm – 8:00pm FRIDAY 19 MAY.

In discussion with a few parents, there seems to be some confusion surrounding ground locations and lunch. As indicated earlier in the year the ground locations are on the college website (http://www.joeys.org/sport/ground-locations/). You just need to select the appropriate school and the ground locations will appear. If your son is playing a school that is not part of the GPS, then a simple google search would provide your answer.

In relation to lunch, cut lunch means that the team will be provided lunch at the ground after their match (generally a packed lunch consisting of sandwiches or wraps, fruit and a snack). The coach is to pick up the lunch from the kitchen and takes this with the team as they travel on the bus to the match. I know a couple of coaches did not do this last week so hopefully this will be addressed for future matches.

Pie Van means that the boys get their lunch from the pie van at the venue where the First and Second XV are playing. As all games this weekend are played here (with the exception of Cross Country) lunch will be provided in the dining hall for those who remain at the College. As was the case last week, the boys can leave after their match and return for the Second XV match seated in the grandstand at 2pm. I will be discussing with the boys later in the week as to where we are placed in the stands and the uniform for the day. Please have this discussion with your son so that you are aware.

Without doubt, one of the most highly anticipated annual events at St Joseph’s College, Hunters Hill, is Grandparents Day. For many years the day has given boys in Years 7 and 8 the opportunity to spend a morning with their grandparents, sharing special moments that will long be remembered and celebrating their unique relationship.

More than 400 grandparents visited St Joseph’s for the event on 8 May, with some travelling great distances to join their grandsons for the occasion.

The morning began with a liturgy in the Br Emilian Hall, which focused on the special bonds that exist between grandparents and their grandchildren. During the liturgy boys lit candles for their grandparents and spent time reflecting on those who were unable to be there.

A tour of the College gave boys the opportunity to proudly show off the boarding areas, Resources Centre, dining rooms, main building and some of their other favourite areas, while also allowing grandparents who are former students to reminisce about their time at St Joseph’s and talk about the many changes that have taken place over the years.

Morning tea was served on the front lawn, giving grandparents and grandsons an often-too-rare opportunity to sit and talk together. The morning concluded with a number of student musical performances in the Brother Emilian Hall.

A cracking day for rugby on Sydneys Northern Beaches saw the boarders playing Sunday Rugby with the ocean as a backdrop!  Today, a bit of extra fun as the boys had to take on fellow boarder Ed Gilmore’s Newport team in the U13’s!

A fantastic game of rugby by both teams with some great runs. A close fight to the end with the Breakers coming out on top 22-17!

A quick cool down with sausage sanga and a cold drink and the boys were ready to head to their next game against Drummoyne where they had a strong victory. A good weekend had by all.

Further to the Headmaster’s Letter of 7 February 2017 on  ‘Traffic In and Around the College – Student Safety’ and in particular to concerns on major sports days, the College has now implemented important new procedures.

These new procedures are as follows and commence this Saturday, 13 May 2017 :

1. On major game days on Saturday 13/5 v Waverley, 27/5 v Knox, 17/6 v Scots, 29/7 v Shore, 12/8 v Riverview these new procedures will apply.
2. Ryde Road Gates will be closed from 8.00am and locked until at least 1.00pm.
3. Gladesville Road Gates and Mark Street Gates will be closed from 8.00am to 1.00pm.
4. Security Guards will manage entry and exit at Gladesville Road Gates and Mark Street Gates
5. Parking in College grounds is only via Gladesville Road Gates and is permitted only with the Authorised Parking Pass or College Photo Identification and is valid for that day only.
6. Parking in College grounds via Gladesville Road Gates will be available for any driver displaying a current NSW Mobility Parking Scheme Permit  or an Australian Disability Parking Permit.
7. In the event car parking spaces in the College grounds are full, no further on-site parking will be permitted.

Just a reminder that Grandparents day is next Monday, May 8. The boys will need to wear their Blues for the day and it will run from Period 1-4. Normal classes will resume after lunch for Periods 5 and 6. Sport training will be on as per usual and it is recommended that Day Students sign out at 5pm due to limited homework that night.

This Saturday marks the commencement of the compulsory attendance at the First and Second XV rugby matches. To put it simply, all boys are to attend. As the boys are playing all over the place this weekend, the following applies;

1. All students are to attend wearing their full College tracksuit.
2. Buses depart SJC for Scots College at 1pm.
3. Most of the Rugby fixtures are at Scots so the boys can remain there after their game.
4. For those boys in the 13 G Rugby Team who have an 8am match they will return to the College after their game. They can either catch the bus to Scots at 1pm of you can drop your son there.
5. The boys are free to go with you after their match but they do need to be at Scots College no later than 2pm in time for the Second XV kick off.
6. The boys can leave with you from Scots at the conclusion of the First XV or return to the College to be collected between 5.30pm and 6pm.

Today at the Headmasters Assembly we recognised those who fought for us and remember those who paid the ultimate price and sacrificed their lives for us all. There was a focus on the 126 Joeys Old Boys who lost their lives and a particular focus on Lance Corporal Horace Sydney Logan.

Towards the end of the Assembly, we recognised the academic achievements of many boys from last term who performed exceptionally well in their studies. Well done boys.
