Year 7 Reflection Day

The Year 7 boys participated in their Reflection Day today. They engaged in a spiritual journey and along the way learnt about the history and culture of St Joseph’s College. Br Anthony described the features of the quilt in the Br Emilian Hall and the boys developed a good understanding of life here at Joeys. They brainstormed characteristics of Joe Boys, engaged in a treasure hunt and finished the day with a beautiful Mass where the boys received their Bibles. A great day had by all.

A message from the Spring Fair Committee

Dear Year 7 Parents,

On behalf of the Spring Fair Committee we wish to extend a warm welcome to St Joseph’s!! We hope that you have a wonderful time at the college.

If you are not aware, in November each year we host a wonderful school fair. It is primarily a fun family community day where we work together to put on stalls and entertainment for the community. We do raise some funds but it is not the sole fundraising activity of the year.

We would like to extend an invitation to any Year 7 parent who might like to become involved in helping us to produce the fair. We have a philosophy of ‘Many hands make light work’ and as such we would like to run a large committee so that the tasks at hand are manageable and enjoyable. We meet roughly a couple of times a term with frequency increasing at the later half of the year.

We are relaxed committee and would gladly welcome new members. It is also an excellent way to meet new parents and get an inside view of the working of the P&F.

Our first meeting is on 8 March will be held in the College Staff Room (1st Floor Main college building) at 6.30pm for approximately 1 hour.

Please come along if you would like to find out more. Or alternatively feel free to contact myself, Renee Daspromonte or Kath Walton if you have any question.

We look forward to seeing you.

Cheers Liz

(Jackson – Year 11, Xander – Year 8)

Tennis Day

A message from the Tennis Convenor, Mr. Andy Gilvary

As you may know the College recently laid 8 brand new tennis courts at lower park over the summer break. The work was completed last week and on Sunday we will be celebrating this exciting development for the tennis programme with a parents and carers day / tournament at the courts from 10am – 1pm. I’d welcome anyone from the staff who would like to come down and have a look at the new courts and or if you would like to have a hit please let me know. We’ll be putting on some breakfast from 9.30am, Father Gavin will bless the courts at 10am after which we’ll warm up and play some matches in what should be a great day.

Joeys opened its first tennis court on the 7th May 1911, with 6 courts then being placed within the main College campus in 1972. As the programme grew, and with the introduction of the GPS competition, the courts relocated to Lower Park in 1992 where the curriculum has remained since. Today, we cater for approximately 100 boys in summer, who head to use the courts around 10’000 times annually. Hopefully Sunday will be an excellent way to recognise the future of tennis at Joeys.

Have a great day and I hope to see you at the weekend,

Upcoming Events!!!

On Monday February 13, the Year 7 boys have their Reflection Day and Mass. Parents are very welcome to attend the Mass where the boys will receive their new bibles. It starts at 2.15pm and will be in the Farrell Auditorium. The boys are to wear their PE shorts, closed in shoes and coloured house shirt. They do not need their blazers for the day. As there wont be classes, homework will be limited so you may wish to sign your son out at 5pm. Please ensure that this goes on the Parent Portal.

On Tuesday February 14, the boys have their PE Incursion (Periods 3 and 4) and will need to come to school dressed in their PE uniform. Classes as normal for Periods 1, 2, 5 and 6.

Saturday Sport

Please see attached the Sport Fixtures for the weekend with travel times included. It is forecast to be very hot this Saturday so please make sure that your son has a hat, is wearing sun cream and has a water bottle with him. They have been reminded countless times today and we will continue to do this tomorrow.
