Field of Dreams
The 15Fs and 15Hs were scheduled to play an internal game on SJC No 2 at 8.00am. The late cancellation of the 11th XV internal game meant that SJC No 1 had unexpectedly become available. A late decision was made to transfer the 15s internal onto SJC No 1. Such excitement and gratitude I have not witnessed for a long time. So many boys took the opportunity to come up and shake my hand before the game as a thank you for providing them with the opportunity to play on SJC No 1. The next hour was a celebration of rugby as the boys played their own Test match – the scoreboard was in full operation, they had assistant referees on the sideline with flags and they were on their field of dreams. The final score wasn’t important – it is something that they won’t forget in a hurry.
