Bonfire
After the discussions on Saturday evening, the boys and fathers came together to sit around a massive bonfire. The fathers presented a letter they had written to their sons. If you look carefully at the size of the people in the photos of the bonfire, you might get an idea of the size of the flames!
Father and son meetings
On Saturday evening the camp came together for dinner then the boys and their fathers separated for some discussions on fathers and their relationships with their sons. Sean Johns from the Fathering Project spoke to the Dads in the dining hall.
Bushwalking
The Colo bus ferried people to the top of the ridge for a bushwalk which had views of the colo property and the campsite below.
Orienteering and historical walks
An orienteering course and local historical walk was also on offer.
Ropes course activities
Canoeing and fishing on Colo lagoon

Father Son Camp
I am pleased to report that all fathers and their sons have returned from the Father Son weekend at Colo safely. There were no injuries although some of the boys have their egos a little bruised after their fathers showed them up in the touch football, softball and various other activities, each of which the fathers won convincingly.
The cooperation of all and the spirit into which everyone entered into all the weekend activities was excellent. I hope the weekend was an enjoyable one and also beneficial for you all.

Year 9 Father Son camp information
This is an invitation for your son and his father or “fatherly figure” to attend the Year 9 Father/Son weekend at Colo on the 19th and 20th August. This is an optional opportunity, which usually sees at least half of the Year 9 boys and their father (or father figure) attending.
For many Year 9 boys, this age is a time when they are entering a transition to manhood. It can be a time of exciting change and growth that is coupled with times of challenge and struggle for your son (as well as for those close to him). The intent of the weekend is to allow the opportunity for you to spend some special time with each other and strengthen your dialogue with him as he embarks on this transition. Those fathers who have joined us in the past have spoken very highly of their positive and rewarding experiences.
There are links to six documents providing information related to the weekend at the bottom of this post.
Many boys and their dads (or father figure) get a lot out of their Colo experience together and I hope that you’ll be able to join us.
Kind regards,
Paul Bryant, Coordinator of the SJC Colo Outdoor Education Campus
