  • Games against Newington: played 23; won 19; drew 0; lost 4.
  • Games against Armidale; played 10; won 9; lost 1.
  • The boys took a liking to the opposition in-goal area racking up 1,367 points at an average of 36.0 points per match.  They bunkered down in defence to limit the opposition to 516 points at an average of 13.6 points per match.

Football Summary

  • The football boys had a tough day at Stanmore against Newington.  It was always going to be a tough assignment with Newington being very strong in football; fielding 37 teams compared to Joeys 16 teams.
  • Played 15; won 2; drew 1; lost 9; unavailable 3.  The 14A game was played as a friendly.

AFL Summary

  • The AFL boys finished the season on a high with a solid 93-35 victory over Barker at Alan Davidson Oval.
  • Top goal scorer was Brendan McMorrow who piloted 4 kicks through the big sticks.  In a true team effort, 10 other boys scored maximums.
  • Nick Lees picked up the coaches’ best on ground while Brendan McMorrow picked up the players’ votes.
  • The team had an outstanding season finishing with 6 wins and 3 losses out of the 9 competition matches played.

Field of Dreams

The 15Fs and 15Hs were scheduled to play an internal game on SJC No 2 at 8.00am.  The late cancellation of the 11th XV internal game meant that SJC No 1 had unexpectedly become available.  A late decision was made to transfer the 15s internal onto SJC No 1.  Such excitement and gratitude I have not witnessed for a long time.  So many boys took the opportunity to come up and shake my hand before the game as a thank you for providing them with the opportunity to play on SJC No 1.  The next hour was a celebration of rugby as the boys played their own Test match – the scoreboard was in full operation, they had assistant referees on the sideline with flags and they were on their field of dreams.  The final score wasn’t important – it is something that they won’t forget in a hurry.

Sport results for 29 July

Courtesy of Mr David Wiseman, please find below some statistics from last weekend, and following are the scores from each game over the weekend.

Rugby Summary

  • All games (excluding internals): played 36; won 31; drew 1; lost 4.
  • Games against Shore: played 29; won 25; drew 1; lost 3.
  • Games against Knox; played 4; won 4; lost 0.
  • The boys had no trouble finding the try line with 1,395 points scored at an average of 36.7 points per match.  They didn’t forget to tackle with only 450 points conceded throughout the day which is an average of 11.8 points per match.  The opposition was held below 8 points in 18 games – the opposition failed to get on the board at all in 9 games.
  • The Opens and 14s were the most successful age groups with no losses to external teams.  The Opens were dominant, winning games by large margins with an average points differential of 38.6 points (points for minus points conceded divided by the number of games).  The 14s had to work harder but deservedly got the chocolates in all their games – their average points differential was only 16.6 points.
  • Most successful team of the day was the 15Ds who defeated Shore by 102-7 despite having to remove players from the field due to the mercy rule.  Groundsman Scott will need to replace turf on SJC No 4 after the 15Ds ran in 16 tries – that’s 1 try every 3.1 minutes!!
  • The game of the day was the internal clash between the 16Cs and the 15As.  The 16Cs had a huge size advantage and really took the game to the 15As.  The 15As refused to be intimidated and played a smart game to counter the size of their opposition.  The 16Cs were ahead throughout the game and appeared to have the victory secured until an attacking raid from within their own half in the final 2 minutes resulted in a match winning try to the 15As.  The 15As were warmly applauded by the crowd after their 15-12 win – a wonderful story after their 15-3 defeat by King’s on the previous Saturday.

Football Summary

  • The football boys had a successful day at home against Shore.
  • Played 16; won 8; drew 4; lost 3; unavailable; 1.
  • Strong results in the Opens, 15s and 13s with no losses.

AFL Summary

  • The AFL boys are going from strength to strength with another strong win – this time against Waverley at the boutique Tramway Oval which sits in the shadows of the SCG.
  • The boys got up 67-19 in a dominant win.  Accuracy was a problem with the team scoring 19 behinds and only 8 majors.
  • Top goal scorers were James Der and William Gibbs who scored 2 maximums each.
  • Cooper Searle picked up the coaches’ best on ground while Joshua Gibbs picked the players’ votes.
  • After 9 rounds of the competition, the boys have won 5 games and lost 3 games.  Round 1 was a bye.
