Evening Study

The structure for evening study has somewhat changed this week with the boys now being given the opportunity to engage in collaborative work in the Resource Centre. This is a wonderful space and one in which the boys are certainly enjoying. The boys are given the option to do collaborative/group work to problem solve and challenge one another or to continue with their individual work. This remains a work in progress and this will certainly be the case for some time but the Year 7 boys are relishing the opportunity to work together in a nice open productive space.

Birthdays this week

Oliver and Rohan both turned 12 on Thursday

Billy turned 12 on Saturday

Alec turned 12 on Monday

Alex turned 12 on Saturday and James 13 on Sunday

Year 7 Reflection Day

On Friday February 16, the Year 7 boys will have their Reflection/Spirituality Day and Welcome Mass. This is a great day and one in which the boys really enjoy. During the Mass, the boys are presented with their bibles which they will carry with them through their journey here at the College. Parents are most welcome to attend – in fact it would be great if you could be there. I and the boys would certainly appreciate it.

The Mass will begin at 2.15pm in the College Chapel and will conclude at approx. 3.15pm.

Uniform for the day – the boys are to wear their PE shorts, joggers and House Colour T Shirt. They will need to bring their Full BLUES with them to school on the day as they will change into this prior to the Mass.

Instrument Demonstration

On Monday afternoon, the boys witnessed the finest musicians that the College has to offer perform and is doing promote the various instruments on offer here for the boys to learn. Following this, every boy in Year 7 chose a musical instrument to practice. Music lessons and Ensembles will begin in the next week or two.

Bed Making Tutorial

The Year 7 boys Boarders sat through a Q&A on bed making tonight. Mr Andrew Heagney spent time demonstrating the correct procedures here. The boys even learnt how to do hospital corners!!!!

Sport Updates

All boys have now been placed in teams for their chosen sport. While there might be a few issues and you may have some questions about this, can I please ask you to be patient here. It has been a short turn around allocating boys to teams and the coaches have done their best here to make this as fair and equitable as possible. These teams are not set in stone and will more than likely change over the course of the season.

In regards to these teams, I do not get all the team allocations so I am unsure of who is in each team. Please direct any question relating to this to the appropriate sports convenor (this is also listed on this blog site).

The boys are asked to arrive at their match 30 minutes prior to the commencement for home fixtures. For those playing at other Colleges, the boys need to arrive 10 minutes prior to the bus departure time. Each boy is expected to travel on the bus with their team but can leave from the venue with family.

We would like to invite you to attend our first Books & Blokes Breakfast for 2018, to meet former Australian leg-spinner turned hilarious cricket commentator, Kerry O’Keeffe.
Kerry is one of Australian cricket’s most popular and colourful characters. His wicked sense of humour and knowledge in all things sport won him a gig as a regular guest on the popular TV show “The Fat”, as an ABC Radio Test cricket and One Day International Commentator and as a columnist with News Limited. Kerry will share stories about his life as both a cricketer and commentator and we will have copies of some of his books available for sale.
About the Books & Blokes Breakfast
We began the Books & Blokes series at Joeys in 2012 as part of an initiative to celebrate the National Year of Reading. This breakfast series aims to encourage men both at home and in the college community to share their love of reading with the boys, to talk about and recommend books they have enjoyed and to help spread the message that “It’s OK for Blokes to Read”. We aim to bring in a broad range of inspirational and interesting speakers to share their stories over a casual and laid back breakfast. (We do not charge students or guests to attend) To find out more, take a look at our Books & Blokes Breakfast webpages http://joeys.libguides.com/booksandblokes
