Division Meeting Guest Speaker

Yesterday the boys were very fortunate to have a guest speaker by the name of Melissa McGuiness who spoke to the boys about Road Safety. Below is an account from one of the boys. It was a presentation that was truly inspiring and remarkable and I would strongly encourage you to speak with your son this weekend about it.

Car safety talk

the talk year 11 had on Wednesday was a daunting one to say the least, it consisted of a mum talking about the death of her son Jordan. His death was the cause of drinking and drug driving, taking his life and five others, leaving a 15-month-old little girl orphaned. Her son was unfortunately the cause of the accident, she spoke about the affect this had on Jordan’s two sisters and most of his family.  Jordan was a great kid and had a bright future ahead but this one mistake is what costed him his life and many others. All of us boys were confronted by the story and many of us couldn’t hold back the tears, but there were some seriously important messages to take note of. As we come into our adult years we need to take more responsibility for our actions because one mistake is all it takes to ruin your life and someone else’s. we are all defined by the decisions we make this is the most important message Jordan’s tragic story gave me and I’m sure almost all of year 11 as well. I thought it was one of the most heart-breaking things a mother would have to go through, out living her own child, but she also displays great courage and strength to tell such a personal story, being a role model for many young men and women, while promoting an important message.
