Last weekend, in a fantastic team effort, a large number of Year 8 boys combined as part of the Joeys Junior Athletics Team to win the junior competition for the first time in 25 years!
Usually all boys would attend on the Saturday but due to COVID-19 the event was held without spectators over 2 days with the Junior, Intermediate and Senior competitions all held separately. This is one of the few events during the year when ordinarily the boys in junior years can represent the College in front of the entire school. Unfortunately this could not be the case this year.
The Year 8 boys travelled to Homebush early on Sunday morning to compete, despite not having their mates supporting from the stands…. and they really did it in style!!!
There were fantastic performances across the track and field from all the Year 8 boys. Each performance contributed valuable points to the overall point score, even if it wasn’t a win.
Particular congratulations to Billy Blair who broke two AAGPS records, the u13 90m hurdles and the u13 100m. Other highlights include Lucas Arnautovic winning the u14 long jump. Tomas Moloney winning the u13 800m. Leon Schouten winning both the u13 400m and u13 800m. We also got a win in the u13 4x100m and a second in the u14 4x100m.
