15C Cricket Report

The 15/C’s achieved their second win of the season with a strong performance against Sydney Grammar and were happy to have played their game despite the rain intervals. Luckily they were playing on the school’s artificial wicket. Both teams were severely depleted, with the 8 men of Joeys competing against 7 from Grammar, leaving a lot of space in the field to aim for. Charlie Rice (Year 8) stepped in to help us out in the field, which was greatly appreciated by the boys.

Joeys bowled first once again and the pick of the bowlers this week was Lachie Brown, with superb figures of 3 wickets for 8 runs off 3.3 overs. He even trapped the same batsman LBW twice, as we allowed one of their men to bat again to even it up. Lachie now has to wait for his hattrick opportunity with his first ball of the next game! Archie Landers nearly landed himself a hattrick, after clean bowling Grammar’s number 4 and 5 in consecutive balls. Our new found off-spinner, Mac Ward, bowled two maidens in a row and only conceded 2 scoring shots from his 3 overs. Credit also goes to the two Toms (Miller and Petherbridge) for putting on the wicket keeper gloves in Zac Boyle’s absence. All 9 of our boys bowled at least 2 overs, with accurate bowling despite the conditions limiting Grammar to 60/8 in 24 overs, leaving a very achievable target to chase.

Jono Pennington moved up from no.3 to open this week, alongside Mac Ward. They put on a creditable 40 runs for the first wicket partnership, when Jono was bowled with 24 runs to his name, including 3 fours and a six. Mac also hit a few boundaries before being caught on 13. Archie, Tom P and Jenson all scored 4 each to comfortably reach the 61 runs required in the 10th over.

Two wins on the spin, the boys enjoyed themselves and are looking to make it three in a row next Saturday – let’s hope we get a dry one!
