My 5.2 Mathematics class went (not very far) on an excursion today to practice applying their trigonometry skills to some basic surveying. They estimated the height of the palms on the front lawn and then had to calculate how high the statue of Mary on the top of the tower was above the front drive. I am not sure that the use of the tape measure was very accurate, however their calculations were good.
