15 A Cricket Report

15A Cricket

On a slightly damp morning at Weigall No 4, Joeys won the toss and sent Grammar in.

Max Circosta and Fred Finlayson struck early and with Sam Nikandrow chipping in and Ben Jackson claiming 2 catches in the gully (one a screamer of a slashed low full-toss), Grammar was in trouble at 4-12. An excellent century partnership followed with the home teams 5 & 6 batters scoring 39 and 59 respectively, as Joeys slightly lost their way.

At the end of their allotted overs SGS 5/115

Joeys lost Will Matthews early in the pursuit but steadied thanks to a solid partnership between Reg Ager and our new man Max Bourke – who joined the team from Country NSW this week. Still 1-49 became 3/49 became 6/79 as wickets tumbled and runs hard to come by. Circosta pushed hard before holing out to a fine outfield catch. 7/92 became 8/94 then 2 overs left, 18 to get, Jackson and Hall at the crease. A six from Jackson off the last ball of the penultimate over keeps us on the game and it’s 10 to win off the last.

Grammar brings back their big left handed quick but Hall flicks the first ball over backward square leg for 6 and it’s 4 to win, 5 to come. Next ball Halls given out caught behind. 9/112 and it’s 4 runs from 4 balls as Joeys number 11 Nikandrow takes guard. Play and miss, then a quick single, job done. 3 to win from 2 – Jackson on strike.

Cometh the hour cometh the man!

You better believe it! Short ball from the big quick is dispatched to the fence and Joeys win 9 down with 1 ball to spare.

Epic game, great sportsmanship from Grammar, great result for Joeys. Contributions from all the Joeys team but standout performances from a Bourke, Circosta and Jackson. Still plenty of work to do.
