YOU CHOOSE – YOUTH ROAD SAFETY CAMPAIGN

ON TUESDAY OUR BOYS LISTENED TO A VERY PERSONAL AND POWERFUL PRESENTATION FROM MELISSA McGUINNESS, WHO RECOUNTED AND SPOKE TO OUR BOYS OF THE DEVESTATION FOLLOWING HER SON KILLING FOUR PEOPLE AND HIMSELF, FOLLOWING A DECISION TO DRIVE UNDER THE EFFECTS OF ALCOHOL AND CANNIBIS. TWO OF HIS VICTIMS WERE THE PARENTS OF A FIFTEEN-MONTH-OLD GIRL AT THAT TIME. MELISSA’S PRESENTATION HAD A STRONG EFFECT UPON OUR BOYS, SUCH THAT THEY CHOSE TO GIVE HER A STANDING OVATION AT THE CONCLUSION AS WELL AS LINE UP TO GIVE HER A THANKYOU HUG ON THEIR WAY OUT.

PAT NAGLE AND HARVEY O’KANE GAVE THEIR OWN OBSERVATIONS OF MELISSA’S PRESENTATION-

“On Tuesday this week in our Division meeting we were told that we would be presented by a Road Safety enthusiast. Going into this seminar most boys were expecting just a normal talk about road safety and the massive dangers of being on the road. Miss McGuinness stared her presentation with a short video of her son on his last day of Year 12.  All the boys were very confused as to why Melissa would show us a video regarding this. Soon it hit everyone in the room that Melissa’s son was a perpetrator in a drink and drug driving high speed motor accident. As Melissa went further into her presentation it was clear how much this has had a massive impact on her family’s life and the other families lives that were affected by Melissa’s son’s unthought full action.  That night he died and 4 others lost their lives and a young baby was left orphaned. Towards the end of this amazing presentation it was apparent how much of an impact this has had on all the boys and sir.

This experience had left all the boys touched and so very grateful for how lucky we all are to hear a mother take the time out of her day to share her life changing story with us”.
