There was plenty of excitement and confidence as the 1st XV played at home for the first time this season. The boys were up against a Newington side, with both teams desperate for a win. We started off well, holding onto possession for long periods and scoring first. Both teams went on to score some excellent long range tries. With Joeys on attack, down by 7-points, they had a great opportunity to square the match. However, a 90m intercept try, pushed Newington’s lead out to 14, with 8 minutes to play.
Our boys showed excellent character, scoring two quick tries, and almost a third on the last play of the match. Unfortunately, it wasn’t to be, with Newington winning 31 – 29.
