Our First XV faced another huge challenge against an impressive Riverview side. Dressed in their Indigenous jerseys, both schools participated in a smoking ceremony prior to kick-off. As has been the case for every match in this year’s tightly contested GPS competition, it was on a knife edge from start to finish. After a hard fought 50 minutes, Joeys put themselves in a position to win the match but were unable to capitalise on key opportunities. Much like the 90-metre intercept try last week, the bounce of the ball seemed to favour Riverview and they ran in two quick tries against the run of play.
Despite injury, fatigue and frustration, our boys were brave, again, and fought back – almost stealing another famous Joeys vs Riverview victory. It wasn’t to be, eventually going down 21–26. You couldn’t fault our boys for their effort, and they will regroup, before taking on King’s at home this Thursday afternoon.
