Four Year 12 athletes were selected to represent GPS at the CIS Cross Country Championships at the Sydney International Equestrian Centre, Horsley Park on Thursday last week. The course proved a true Cross-Country course with a mixture of dirt, gravel, sand and grass across the course. The 3km & 4km loop had a couple of strong hills as well as undulating terrain that made the race hard but fast. The results were as follows:
● Oliver Neate Under 17’s 6km – 1st place
● Max Merifield Under 18’s 8km – 18th place
● Daniel Zubani Under 18’s 8km – 30th place
● Matteo Mastro Under 18’s 8km – 45th place.
All the boys should be incredibly proud of their efforts. Every field featured 60 or more of the best athletes from independent schools in NSW and were incredibly competitive races. For Oliver, this marked his 3rd consecutive CIS Cross Country Championship victory and is a real testament to the effort, resilience and leadership that he demonstrates. For Max, Daniel, and Matteo this marked their first season of Cross Country for the College. The fact that they made the GPS team for the CIS reflects their hard work, talent and commitment over recent weeks and is something that they should certainly be proud of.
