Saturday marked the first race of Term 3 after a well deserved 3 week break from the regular competition schedule. Over the holidays the squad were rewarded with a 10 day break to help them freshen up after a busy schedule throughout Term 2. The boys returned to training this week eager to get stuck into the last 4 weeks of the season.
The first race of the competition season saw the squad travel to Ewen Park on the Cooks River in Hurlstone Park for the final trial of the season, the Trinity Relays. The Trinity Relays is a unique event that allows staff, old boys and parents to race against the boys. We had 6 boys who took on the 2.6km loop along one side of the Cooks River, across a bridge and then back along the other side before crossing another bridge back to the start/finish line. In our Year 12 team we had Daniel Zubani, Max Merifield, Xavier Fink and Matteo Mastro who placed 12th out of 25 Opens Teams (7th GPS team) in a strong return to racing for all four of the boys. In our second team we were only able to field two runners due to injuries, illness, other sporting commitments and NSW All Schools Cross Country.
Next week sees the squad travel to Sydney Park for the 5th competition round of the Cross Country season, which is being hosted by Newington.
