Saturday 5th August, Riverview Invitational, GPS Competition 6
Saturday saw the first time that the squad raced against only the GPS schools as CAS concluded their season at a separate venue. The race was held on Riverview’s grounds with the start and finish being on the number 1 oval before the boys went up a steep gravel hill and looped around the outside of 3 different sports fields. The course was predominantly grass with lots of uneven ground and undulating hills, which made for a challenging but successful day.
In the seniors we had four runners in Oliver Neate, Daniel Zubani, Matteo Mastro and Tom Ryan (Y11). Oliver led the way with a 4th place finish in his return to racing and was followed by Daniel in 28th, Matteo in 30th and Tom in 48th out of 89 runners. These results gave us a 5th place finish as we beat home Grammar, Newington & Riverview with a score of 110 points, which is our third best score of the season. A special mention must go to Matteo who continues to show massive improvement with each race and scored his best placing of the year so far. Next week sees the squad travel to Upjohn Park as we host the final round of the season, the GPS Championships.
