The final round of the GPS Debating Competition took place last Friday evening at St Ignatius’ College, Riverview.
Our First Debating team, Will McCarthy, Benji Sestanovic and John Toohey, were looking forward to securing a win over Riverview to ultimately win the Premiership. In a ‘nail-biting’ debate about Latin America and its involvement with the United States in the war on drugs, Joeys was able to ‘out-talk’ Riverview and win the debate!
The debate between Riverview and Joeys Firsts team drew a large crowd of 131 people from both schools. The Riverview captain stated that ‘It was bigger than any crowd they had ever had’. It was wonderful to see both schools have over 40 students each spectating the event.
Congratulations also to the Second Debating who also secured a premiership.
