Year 7

Welcome to Year 7 Maths@joeys. In this blog we will provide parents with information regarding their son’s Mathematics course. Upcoming topics and assessments will be listed as well as general information regarding the study of Mathematics. In 2012 there will be seven Year 7 Mathematics classes. These classes were streamed at the end of Term 1 based on results gained from 2 assessment tasks and the Allwell test. The assessment tasks in Term 4 will be held on the 23rd October for all classes except 7.4 which will have their assessment on the 24th October. The End of Year assessment will be on all of the work that students have completed in Terms 3 and 4 and will be held in the last week of School.

The assessment tasks in Year 7 will be designed to reflect Bloom’s Taxonomy. All students could be expected to achieve about a third of the available marks by answering questions which examine their knowledge and understanding of the concepts taught. A further third of the available marks will be allocated to questions which requires students to demonstrate their ability to apply their knowledge in a range of more difficult questions. The remaining third of available marks will be allocated to questions which are designed to challenge and hence differentiate the top students in the year group.

Topics studied in Term 4

There will be 3 topics taught in Term 4 of 2012. These are:

Geometry
Volume and Capacity
Algebra Review
