Welcome to the Joeys Parents and Friends’ Association blog.

2010 finished with another spectacular Spring Fair, now teamed with the reintroduced Joeys Art Show.  It was a wonderful weekend – the last of the 4000 copies of the Joeys cookbook “Contende – Recipes and Stories from the Heart of St Joseph’s College” were sold, and the volunteers who so generously gave their time all year in the Park canteens kept the Joeys Cafe running all weekend, serving crowds from both the Fair and the Art Show.

The year was, as always, a hive of activity – Joeys Rowing continued its support of the vibrant rowing program; Friends of Joeys Music kicked off with Jazz on the Lawn and a wonderful CD (still available); each year group celebrated together and supported each other thanks to the organisational skills of the Year Representatives; Crows Feet Cafe convinced us life @Joeys doesn’t end when your sons leave; and with the support of Joeys staff we managed the sale of second-hand clothing and text books as well as providing a helping hand with many other events and activities which enrich our time here at St Joseph’s. These efforts require the  involvement of the entire Joeys community.

At the final meeting of 2010, our healthy financial position resulted in a unanimous vote for a donation  of $200,000 toward  ‘Realising the Vision’,  the St Joseph’s College Capital Appeal to fund a new Technology and Arts Precinct. This is a project that will reinvigorate the College campus and provide a southern precinct and learning areas which will benefit all our sons, both current and future, every day of their school year.

2011 began with the very successful P&F Welcome Drinks, held in the record breaking heat on the night of 5 February.  Wonderfully organised by the P&F Social Secretaries, more than 300 new and ‘old’ parents celebrated the start of Term 1 and were welcomed by Headmaster Ross Tarlinton and P&F President, Gary O”Gorman. During the evening the 2011 Year Representatives, who play such an important role in assisting us to create and extend friendships, were introduced to the crowd. There was feasting on a delicious array of  food from Alliance (who feed our boys everyday – so don’t ever let them complain – it was excellent)!  A reminder that the Joeys wine served on the night, “The College” sem sav blanc and “The Park” shiraz, are available to order on the Joeys website: http://www.joeys.org/newspublicationsevents/news/JoeysWine.cfm . Thanks must go to the Bayview Hotel, Gladesville, for their support (through a current parent) of the evening. This event followed the New Students and Parents Day (3 January) at which the P&F powered on to serve refreshments for 900 people.  A wonderful effort once again from members of our ever generous community, who then backed up again on 3 March to provide supper for parents attending the Prospective Students Information night.


News from the first P&F Meeting – 16 February

The first meeting of the year heard of the planning underway for 2011:

  • Check the “Dates for your Diary” page of this blog to note functions that are being organised for 2011. More than 30 parents have volunteered as Year Reps to steer their respective year groups through 2011 and there is a lot of energy and thought going into the planning currently underway. Check for information on P and F meetings, Rowing, Mothers and Friends, Joint Riverview/Joeys Mothers Lunch and dates for Year 7 and Year 11. Also have a look at the food@joeys page and learn about the feedback mechanisms in place.

  •  Come along to the next meeting on Wednesday, May 11 (7pm in the Parlour) and hear for yourself what is happening and how you can get involved.
