NCSS Coding competition
During Term 3, students in Year 7 Technology, and Year 9 and 10 Information and Software Technology, were invited to participate in the National Computer Science School’s Coding Challenge organised through Sydney University. It is the first time that Year 7 and 9 students have been involved in the competition here at the College.
Over a five week period, the students worked through a series of 10 modules developing their problem solving and Python programming skills.
The Year 7 students completed the competition modules as a co-curricular activity, working in their own time, and meeting with Mrs Gibson during some lunchtimes and after school.
More than 17,000 students from around the world participated in the Challenge. The results of the competition have now been released, and 3 Year 7 students from St Joseph’s College came in at the top of the leader board with Perfect Scores, with another 2 students earning High Distinctions!
The following Year 7 students received a Perfect score (400/400) in the Beginner’s competition:
- James Forder
- Marek Kliman
- William McCarthy
High Distinctions were earned by:
- Edward Scarf (399/400 – one mark off a perfect score!)
