Examples might include a cake in the shape/colours of a College blazer, a College rugby ball cake or a cake in the shape of one of the College buildings.

The competition is open to the whole school community and competition cakes must be delivered to the cake stall on the day of the Spring Fair by 11.30am.

Cakes will be sold after the midday judging.

DONATING A CAKE? All bakers donating cakes are asked to use either the boxes supplied by Year 9 or cardboard/paper plates with a plastic wrap cover. Please note: Tupperware and other storage containers are not preferred as it is difficult to return them.

Please include a list of ingredients with your baking for us to display.

We also encourage all Christmas cake bakers to get cooking as these cakes are extremely popular.

LADIES AUXILIARY STALL – HIGH TEA

We are hoping Year 12 mums will join us again this year to lend a hand and a friendly smile at high tea in the Farrell Auditorium.

Last year the 30 high tea tables were constantly full, with things extremely busy from 12-3pm. To ensure another high tea success we are in need of a large number of helpers on the day for food prep, serving and clearing.

Can you donate baked goods or pretty teapots and tea-cups?

We would love any home-baked small items, scones, sandwich fillings, sweets and savouries for the tiered trays. We are also looking for pretty teapots and tea-cups for use on the day.

Baked goods, teapots and teacups can be dropped off to Joeys on Saturday 12 November or on the day of the fair.

Please email sjclaux@joeys.org if you can help in any way!

ENQUIRIES: Hilary Bokeyar email pbokeyar@bigpond.net.au or telephone 0416 155 843; or Helen Ross on telephone 9144 1891.

COUNTRY PARENTS STALL

Always popular at the Spring Fair is the local produce from our rural community. We are looking for contributions of handmade or commercially available relishes, pickles, cordials, chutneys, olive oils, wine, liquor, coffee, honey and cheeses as well as farm-grown fruit and/or vegetables, farm-grown meat, chicken or eggs. In fact, anything showcasing our country heritage that could be displayed or sold would be gratefully accepted. If you can’t grow it, perhaps you can make it, e.g. fruit cakes, preserves, jams or biscuits using Aussie-grown produce.

ENQUIRIES: If you can help by donating, organising, volunteering to help in the Country Parents Stall, or would like to be a contact point for other regional/country parents in your area, contact Kate Bokenham on email katebokenham@bigpond.com or mobile 0488 682 922; or Flick Keady on email keadys@bigpond.com or mobile 0438 298 037.

Pilbara immersion

During the recent school holidays a number of Year 9 travelled to the community of Warralong in the Pilbara for an indigenous immersion.

Lesley Maher, Director of Mission writes:

The boys were all excellent. They represented the school well and all were taken far out of their comfort zone. They made strong connections with the community and worked hard to achieve those connections. They coped with difficult conditions and were upbeat and great company. They also gave of themselves in situations that even adults would struggle with. They spent two mornings washing hair and combing out head lice, they painted, played, danced and shared cooked kangaroo tails under the stars. They collected rubbish from the never ending piles blown against the fences and coped with dust and heat and in some cases sickness. I was exceptionally proud of them all.
