Joeys Year 7 2019

Buddy BBQ

During the first week of Term 1 each of the Year 7 boys were allocated a Year 12 ‘buddy’ (some Year 7 boys actually got two buddies). All the boys shared a BBQ dinner in the Year 12 boarding area and the Year 12 boys shared their wisdom and a few tips with the Year 7 boys.

Some of the wisdom provided by the Year 12 boys:

If I could give you some advice as you start here it would be to make the most of this very lucky opportunity. Not everyone gets to come to this great school and it would be a shame to not take advantage of it. It’s been the best years of my life, especially in the later years. You’ll make mates that you’ll have for the rest of your life and memories you’ll never forget. Make the most of your time here and have a good one.
Charlie L (Year 12)

I only knew one person when I started at Joeys and within the first day I met boys who are now my closest mates.
Josh H (Year 12)

If I could give you some advice as you start here it would be to forget any preconceived ideas you have about this place, it is completely different to anything you will ever experience, and it is really the best. Don’t be afraid to be yourself when you get here, and most importantly, take advantage of all the opportunities you have been given by being here, the more you put in the more you get out!
Lachie S (Year 12)

Speaking from experience of only just starting this way the best way to make friends is through your sport. Try as hard as you can in sport and your peers will respect you for it.
Rogan H (Year 12)
